Haridwar has been a centre of religious and historic importance from the early ages. A religious city that has been remembered by different names in our scriptures and ancient historic epics. Some time it was Myapuri and at other times, Gangadwar.
Situated in the foothills of the Himalayan, on the right bank of the Ganga, this city is a beautiful place for the tourist and pilgrims. According to legend the forefather of King Bhagirath were did severe penance and made Ganga descend from the heaven for the salvation of his forefather.
Haridwar is one of those four chief religious place where the festival of Kumbh takes place in every twelve years. It is believed that if one bath in its sacred waters, he is relieved of all sins and achieves supreme salvation. Hridwar or Mayapuri is considered to be one among the seven salvation-giving Puris
What to See
Popularly known as Brahm. It is a sacred place and the main bathing ghat. Every six years, Ardhkumb and every Twelve years a full kumbh?s festival take take place. People take a dip in the sacred Kund as penance for their sins and thus achieve supreme alvation. The performance of aarti here early and evening is worth watching.
Bhimgoda
This place is situated on the Haridwar-Rishikeh road, about 2.5 kilometres away from the bus-stand. It is believed that the most powerful Bhim constructed tank with the force of his knee at this place.
Mansa Devi Temple
This place is about 2kms away from the Tourism Office. It is a very famous temple (Sidhpeeth). It can be reached either by the ropeway or on foot
Chandi Devi Temple
This place is situated on the NH to Najibabad. It is situated at considerable height of main Ganga in the Neel Mountain. The temple can also be reached through ropeway located at Najibabad road 3kms from Haridwar.
Paawandham
This place is situated about 5 kilometres away from Tourism Office. Here the Hanuman temple is built with look through glass
Manav Kalyan Ashram
This hermitage, situated at Kankhal , is also worth seeing. Here, god has been presents through the idols of his twelve incarnations. The idols of God Krishana and Shiva have been shown in the form of Ardhnarishwar.
Bhoomaniketan
This place is situated about seven kilometers away from Tourism Office. Here, one gets a fantatic view of naturl caves. This hermitage represents a wonderful communion of art and religion.
Vaishnodevi
This place is situated about 6.5km away from the Tourism Office. This temple is imitation of Ma Vaishno Devi?s main temple situated in Jammu and presents a unique mix of natural phenomenon and art.
Parmath Ashram
The centre of attraction are huge idols of Durga, Gajendra Moksha and various other gods and goddesses.
Bharatmata Mandir
This place, situated about seven kilometers away from the Tourism Office, has a worth viewing Temple. This temple is seven storeyed.
Saptarishi Ashram
This worth seeking place is situated close to the4 Bharat mata Temple. The belief is that the Gangaq had to split itself in seven stream in order to save the Saptarishis in deep penance.
Daksh Mahadev and Sati Kund
This temple is situated in Kankhal, about 3.5kms away from the Tourism Office
